Job summary

Alabama Power is seeking a Chemical Technician to guide plant operators in water treatment processes and safeguard steam-cycle chemistry. The role covers calibration, monitoring and improving the water chemistry system across multiple plant sections.

The candidate will ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations, review analyses, and act on corrective actions, while leveraging tools like Maximo and MS Office.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Chemistry or related field; minimum 12 sem/25 qtr hours Chemistry.
• Experience in operation, calibration and maintenance of lab equipment.
• Water treatment plant and water/steam cycle operation preferred.
• Experience as system owner preferred.

Responsibilities

• Guide operators of the water treatment plant for ultrafiltration, demineralization and resin beds to produce demineralized water.
• Protect steam generating equipment chemistry to minimize outages and deposits.
• Review water/steam cycle and cooling cycle chemistry limits and take corrective actions.
• Evaluate problems and write condition reports; maintain water treatment and water chemistry systems.
• Monitor environmental, safety and health regulations for compliance.
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory instrumentation for accuracy.
• Serve as system owner for various water chemistry related systems.
