Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Two years experience in operation and maintenance of a water distribution or wastewater system or public works setting.
• State of Iowa CDL with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain within nine months.
• State of Iowa Grade 1 Water Distribution Operator Certificate or ability to obtain within twenty-four months.
• Must pass a DCI background check and pre-employment physical and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance and repair in water distribution and wastewater systems (repair of water mains, valves, hydrants, CCTV inspections, sewer cleaning).
• Responds to service calls and emergencies, on-call as needed.
• Conducts water quality sampling and related testing per standards and regulations.
• Maintains records of work, observations, equipment performance, and problems.
• Operates and controls pumps, motors, and valves to regulate distribution system.
• Records readings from meters, gauges, and related equipment.
• Spreads and levels earth and materials; handles tools and equipment.
• Cleans and repairs basins, manholes, culverts, and storm drains.
• Operates public works machinery and assists in vehicle maintenance.
• Drives trucks to transport materials; assists in loading/unloading.
• Erects barricades to protect the public; assists in emergencies.
