Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks an engineer to lead the LANSCE accelerator water team, managing technicians in maintenance, repair and improvements of cooling systems. Roles available at Engineer 2 or 3, depending on experience, with higher responsibilities at the senior level.
Engineer 2 oversees operation and maintenance; Engineer 3 adds design, analysis, and integration for new or enhanced water systems, with opportunities to lead upgrades at LANSCE.
Seeking an engineer to lead the LANSCE accelerator water team. This team is responsible for all aspects of the water-cooling systems for the accelerator components. This includes pumps, heat exchangers, piping, valving, flow control, instrumentation, and water conditioning. As Team Leader, you are responsible for managing a team of technicians toward all required maintenance, repair and improvements of the LANSCE water systems. The successful candidate will be hired at the level consistent with his or her knowledge and experience.
This position will be filled at either the Engineering Services Engineer 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
As an Engineer 2 you will lead a team of technicians responsible for the operation and maintenance of the cooling water systems of all components along the LANSCE linear particle accelerator. You will be responsible for planning and scheduling of all maintenance and repair activities of the team. In addition, LANSCE is currently in the process of major upgrades and improvements that require design, analysis and innovative engineering solutions. We seek an engineer eager to embrace and support this process.
In addition to the responsibilities of the lower level, at the Engineer 3 position a deeper level of water systems understanding can be brought to bear on work planning and execution as well as the engineering design, analysis and integration of solutions to either new systems or new approaches to long established methods.
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 3 years practical work experience to the degree necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Current registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is highly desirable.
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 6 years practical work experience to the degree necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable.
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Position will be cleared to this level. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
