The Plutonium Facilities Engineering (PFE) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of nuclear facility engineering capabilities to provide innovative solutions in support of the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission.
We are seeking to fill three (3) Nuclear Facilities Engineering Manager 3 positions across the Modification Engineering portfolio to support the Laboratory mission and assist the Modification Engineering sub-division management team. Roles and responsibilities include:
As a Nuclear Facilities Engineering Manager 3, you will support the Plutonium Facilities Engineering (PFE) Division by providing strategic and operational leadership in alignment with the division's mission to deliver innovative engineering solutions for national security. You will assist the Project Control Engineers (PFE-PCE) Group in setting direction and priorities while ensuring technical and administrative execution is consistent with nuclear facility requirements, the LANL Conduct of Engineering (CoE), and Configuration Management (CM) program expectations. Your oversight will ensure that engineering functions-including design, field execution, procurement, project management, and discipline-specific engineering-are performed in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and standards. You will also lead efforts to resolve technical and personnel challenges, enabling sustained engineering performance in support of reliable, safe, and mission-aligned facility operations.
In addition, but not limited to, the incumbent will assist the Group Leader in developing staffing plans, in accordance with customer requirements and within budget constraints, perform recruiting and hiring activities to implement those plans, and develop staff through training, mentoring and qualification programs.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience managing technical teams and interfacing with other engineering disciplines.
This position will serve in a management role and provide expert knowledge and experience in engineering and administration for facility projects and on-going operations and maintenance within nuclear facilities is required. Specific knowledge and experience sought for includes:
Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation as well as meet the 426.2a education and experience.
426.2a Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree plus four years of nuclear experience required. Job-related education or experience may be substituted on a case-by-case basis in accordance with applicable DOE requirements. A degree may substitute for up to 50% of the required experience. Facility-specific training will be provided based on the individual's qualifications and position responsibilities. Minimum requirements must be met at the time of hire.

Work Environments; work in a noisy environment, work near sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, work near machinery with moving parts, working overtime or an irregular schedule.
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2A, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
