Job summary

City of Seattle is seeking a Water Systems Supervisor to oversee the 24-hour Operations Control Center, monitoring regional water operations. The role includes supervising staff, coordinating CIP projects, and planning system changes for maintenance and routine ops.

Applicants must have 3 years of lead or supervisory experience in water systems, plus an Associate degree in Waterworks or Water Management. WA WDM1 certification and a valid driver license are required.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of lead or supervisory experience in water systems operation.
  • Two years of college level coursework toward an Associate degree in Waterworks or Water Management or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Water Distribution Manager 1 and valid WA driver license required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the 24-hour operation of the Operations Control Center.
  • Provides technical support and coordination for CIP projects.
  • Supervises subordinate staff in water operations.
  • Plans and supervises water system changes for routine ops, CIP, and maintenance.
  • Responds to emergencies as needed.

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking a professional Water Systems Supervisor to oversee the 24-hour operation of the Operations Control Center which monitors and controls the regional water system.

Experience:

Three (3) years of lead or supervisory experience in water systems operation.

Education:

Two years of college level course work toward an Associate degree in Waterworks. Water Management or equivalent Water Resource degree.

Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:
  • Certification by the State of Washington as a Water Distribution Manager 1 (WDM1), and fulfillment of continuing education requirements
  • Valid Washington State driver license
Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, water supply systems, and related infrastructure. In depth knowledge of the operations of reservoirs, pump stations, large pipelines, valves, and all related appurtenances.
  • Experience conducting operational changes in the field working with large valves, gates, pumps, etc.
  • Experience with graphical SCADA computer systems and using SCADA data for analysis.
  • Higher level WDM certification, cross connection certification, and experience in distribution system water quality management.

This position requires five (5) days on-site. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.

The full salary range for this position is: $62.19 - 72.43 hourly
