Job summary

City of Seattle’s Seattle Public Utilities seeks a Water Systems Supervisor to manage the 24-hour Operations Control Center, ensuring continuous monitoring and control of the regional water system.

The role requires 3 years of lead or supervisory water-operations experience, with an Associate degree in Waterworks or related field. WDM1 certification and a Washington driver license are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Three years of lead or supervisory experience in water systems operation.
  • Two years of college toward an Associate degree in Waterworks, Water Management, or equivalent.
  • Certification by the State of Washington as a Water Distribution Manager 1 (WDM1) preferred.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license required.

  • Provide technical support and coordinate CIP projects.
  • Supervise subordinate staff and coordinate water system changes.
  • Respond to emergencies as needed.

Experience:

Three (3) years of lead or supervisory experience in water systems operation.


Education:

Two years of college level course work toward an Associate degree in Waterworks. Water Management or equivalent Water Resource degree


Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.


Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:

  • Certification by the State of Washington as a Water Distribution Manager 1 (WDM1), and fulfillment of continuing education requirements
  • Valid Washington State driver license

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of hydraulics, water supply systems, and related infrastructure. In depth knowledge of the operations of reservoirs, pump stations, large pipelines, valves, and all related appurtenances.
  • Experience conducting operational changes in the field working with large valves, gates, pumps, etc.
  • Experience with graphical SCADA computer systems and using SCADA data for analysis.
  • Higher level WDM certification, cross connection certification, and experience in distribution system water quality management.

This position requires five (5) days on-site. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.

The full salary range for this position is: $62.19 - 72.43 hourly
