Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, biology, public/business admin, earth, physical or environmental science.
• Equivalency options for degree or experience may apply as described in the posting.
• At least 7 years of water/sewer utility experience in operations or capital projects.
• Valid driver's license is required.
• Certification: NC Class A Surface Water Facility Water Treatment or NC PE license.
• Shell of licensure: Class A NC Surface Water Certification or NC PE; obtain within 24 months if needed.
• Minimum 1 year supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Direct operations, maintenance, and staffing of drinking water facilities and related infra.
• Lead EPA-SDWA compliance and regulatory permit activities.
• Manage reservoirs and distribution facilities with substantial storage.
• Coordinate interconnections with neighboring cities for treated water.
• Evaluate strategies and designs to approve capital improvements.
• Set division policies and provide technical guidance to staff.
• Oversee NPDES permits for each treatment plant.
• Support reliable water supply through planning and oversight.

Bachelor's Degree

Assoc. degree + 10 yrs water/sewer exp

HS Diploma/GED + 12+ yrs water/sewer exp

7+ yrs water/sewer utility exp

Valid Driver's License

NC Class A Surface Water Facility Water Treatment Operator Certificate

NC Professional Engineer Certification

Class A NC Surface Water Certification / NC PE Licensure

1+ years supervisory experience
