California Water Service Group (Cal Water) invites you to join a leading water and wastewater utility to advance capital planning and infrastructure projects across San Jose, Bakersfield, or Torrance. This intermediate engineer role provides guidance from senior staff and opportunities to coordinate with operators and other disciplines.

You will assess district systems, prepare project scopes and cost estimates, support CPUC filings, and present analyses to leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
• 4+ years of progressively responsible engineering experience in water utility engineering.
• California Engineer in Training certification preferred.
• California Professional Engineer registration preferred.
• Ability to independently assess complex water systems and translate needs into capital improvements.
• Knowledge of water system planning, design, operations, and infrastructure improvement programs.
• Experience with hydraulic analyses or developing/ interpreting hydraulic models.
• Experience with hydraulic modeling software such as InfoWater or similar.
• Knowledge of capital planning, budgeting, and asset management principles.
• Knowledge of utility regulatory requirements, including drinking water regulations and CPUC rate case processes.

Responsibilities

• Assess district water systems to identify current and future infrastructure needs.
• Collect and analyze system data and demand scenarios for improvements.
• Lead cross-functional planning meetings for capital projects.
• Develop planning-level solutions and cost estimates.
• Prepare project scopes and justification materials for budgeting and CPUC filings.
• Coordinate field investigations and permitting requirements.
• Present projects and analyses to leadership and stakeholders.
• Support internal training on capital planning methods.
