Job summary

The City of Atlanta is seeking a DWM Utility Locate Technician to identify and mark underground water and sewer utilities, resolve 811 locate tickets, and ensure safe excavation practices. You will use GPS, GIS, and ticket systems while coordinating with customers and contractors.

This role requires a high school diploma, 1 year of utility locate experience, and a valid Georgia driver's license. Work outdoors in varying weather, with overtime/weekend as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, or equivalent and a minimum of one (1) year utility locate experience.
• Knowledge of MUTCD, Georgia Dig Law, and Georgia PSC Marking Standard.
• Proficiency with common computer programs (MS Word, Internet) and Google Earth.
• Ability to learn the City's locate ticket management systems.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to schedule and execute multiple tasks and problem solve.
• Ability to read, interpret and create utility drawings.

Responsibilities

• Searches for and locates underground water and sewer infrastructure, marking locations and resolving 811 locate requests.
• Locates water mains, service lines, and meters to prevent damages during construction.
• Assesses and reports water leaks.
• Performs ongoing site assessments during locate tickets.
• Operates a City vehicle safely.
• Researches utility records and communicates with customers and contractors.
• Uses GPS, electronic locate equipment and GIS software.
• Completes documentation for locate activities and records.
• Provides emergency response to damaged water mains when needed.
