Job summary

Spotsylvania County, VA is seeking a civil/environmental engineer to perform engineering, project management, and related tasks for water and sewer utilities, including planning, design, review, construction administration, and data analysis.

Under supervision, the role guides complex projects, maintains GIS data, prepares drawings and models, calibrates hydraulic systems, and develops maintenance programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field; experience preferred.
• OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety and Health within 1 week of employment.
• OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety and Health within 30 days of employment.
• Experience with ArcGIS or AutoCAD preferred.
• Microsoft Office experience required.
• Virginia Driver’s License required.
• EIT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as project manager and/or field engineer guiding water and sanitary sewer projects to completion.
• Maintain utility information in the County GIS system.
• Prepare, organize, and maintain utility drawings and models.
• Calibrate and operate hydraulic distribution and collection system models.
• Develop distribution and collection system maintenance programs.
• Compile and evaluate data related to system operations and capacity.
• Coordinate with other departments and agencies for reviews.
• Coordinate with consulting engineers, contractors, and operations staff.
• Prepare specifications, plans, cost estimates, contracts, and reports.
• Develop and track project budgets and expenditures.
• Interact with the public and provide utilities maps and information.
• Perform site plan, plat, and as-built reviews per County standards.
• Prepare AutoCAD drawings for engineering, permitting, and design standards.
