Job summary

The City of Pleasanton is seeking a Utilities System Operator II to support water distribution and sewer collection in the Public Works Department. The role involves field operations, maintenance, inspections, and responding to issues that keep essential utilities safe and reliable.

You'll work with telemetry and control systems, operate and maintain pumps, meters, and related equipment, and coordinate with City staff and the public.

Qualifications

• Experience operating and maintaining water and sewer systems.
• Knowledge of pump and valve components and flow mechanics.
• Familiar with state regulations governing water distribution and sewer systems.
• Ability to read maps, blueprints, and manuals.
• Strong safety awareness and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and assist repair of water and sewer mains and services.
• Monitor daily operation of pump stations and wells.
• Maintain pumps, motors, valves, meters, and related equipment.
• Operate telemetry and computerized control systems.
• Operate and maintain trucks and heavy equipment.
• Perform laboratory analysis on water and sewer samples.
• Respond to customer inquiries about water quality, pressure, backups, leaks.
• Mark streets to identify underground utilities.
• Perform water flushing and handle chlorine.
• Assist sewer inspection with TV pipeline equipment.
• Record readings and produce reports.
• Set up traffic control devices.
• Make operational adjustments to control equipment.
