Job summary

The City of Oxford is seeking a skilled Utility Maintenance Worker to install, repair, and maintain water and sewer lines and related appurtenances. You will operate a range of heavy construction equipment and work on- and off-site in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities include taps, meters, hydrants, testing, and inspections; you may also perform backfilling, and assist with camera inspections and preventative maintenance. On-call and call-back duties apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; some related construction experience preferred.
• Ability to read utility line maps and manuals; follow written and oral instructions.
• Experience operating heavy construction equipment and backhoes.
• Willingness to obtain Grade I Collection or Grade C Distribution certification within 18 months.
• Ability to work in hot/cold environments and in hazardous conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operates tapping machine to make water and sewer taps and service connections.
• Lays water and sewer pipe; maintains proper grade and depth with laser equipment.
• Installs, tests and services water meters and meter yokes.
• Assists with camera inspections of sewer lines and run tests.
• Inspects lift stations and performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs.
• Operates backhoe, front end loader, dump trucks and other heavy equipment.
• Performs line locating and basic record-keeping of activities.
