Job summary

Charles County Government is seeking a dynamic Line Maintenance Operator I to perform semi-skilled work in maintaining water and sewer lines. Duties include excavating, replacing, testing, charging and backfilling lines as part of a maintenance crew.

Requirements include a tenth grade completion, two years general labor experience, a valid Class C driver's license and likely a flagging certification. The position is safety sensitive and subject to drug/alcohol screening.

Qualifications

• Completion of the tenth grade and two years of general labor experience.
• Valid (Class C) driver's license.
• Flagging Certification (preferred).
• Subject to work beyond normal hours and emergencies.
• Safety sensitive position with random drug/alcohol screening.

Responsibilities

• Repair water and sewer lines using hand and power tools, including meters, hydrants and valves.
• Repair sidewalks, mains, and fixtures as needed.
• Dig to locate underground utilities.
• Maintain and inspect equipment and tools used in the work.
• Clean up the worksite and follow safe work practices.
• Assist with sewage cleanup and related duties.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
