Job summary

The City of Greensboro is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator to support water and sewer construction and maintenance. The role requires safe operation of backhoes, loaders, excavators, and dump trucks, with on-call duties for after-hours emergencies.

Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED or 5 years related heavy equipment experience, 1+ years of equipment operation, and a valid Class A CDL.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalency of 5 years of directly related work experience with Heavy Equipment.
• 1+ years of Heavy Equipment experience and valid CDL required.
• Forklift license or equivalent licensing where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate backhoes/loaders for daily water and sewer construction and maintenance activities.
• Operate skid steer loaders, track loaders, large excavators, and dump trucks as needed.
• Perform work in compliance with OSHA trenching and shoring requirements.
• Utilize knowledge of utility locate color code systems and work zone safety procedures.
• Support field crews during maintenance, repair, and emergency response operations.
• Assist with maintaining safe job sites and proper equipment operation.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours and emergency response work.
