Job summary

City of New Brighton is seeking a Water Safety Instructor Aide to assist Water Safety Instructors with swim lessons and water safety skills, ensuring a safe environment for participants. You will support instruction and program delivery under WSIs, helping students progress through levels with feedback and planning.

The position emphasizes teamwork, strong communication with participants and parents, and maintaining accurate records. A flexible, customer-focused presence is valued in this role.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 14 years old and have completed Instructor Aid Program (or be at least 15)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants and parents in varied settings

  • Maintain professional communication with coworkers, patrons, and parents.
  • Complete required paperwork and reports (attendance, progress, incident reports) with WSIs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Description

Water Safety Instructor Aides (IA) assists Water Safety Instructors (WSI) with instructing swim lessons and water safety skills while providing a safe environment for participants.

Essential Functions
  • Assist with instruction and implementation of aquatics programs.
  • Provide a safe environment for participants.
  • Motivate, guide, and inspire students to help them reach their goals while providing a fun and educational atmosphere.
  • Be familiar with skills taught and passing criteria at each level of the aquatics program, demonstrate and evaluate skills to provide feedback, evaluate skills, and write and execute lesson plans with the assistance of WSIs.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with and effectively communicate with co-workers.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and communicate with patrons and parents in a professional manner.
  • Complete all required paperwork and reports; including attendance records; report cards; and incident reports with assistance of Lead WSIs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Be at least 14 years of age and successfully complete Instructor Aid Program or be at least 15 years of age.
Desired Qualifications
  • Communicate effectively with people in normal, loud, and stressful situations.
  • Support child and/or adult body weight in the water.
