Job summary

American Water Works Association in Colorado is seeking a Water Resources Technician to support water rights administration, conservation, and supply planning. The role involves producing and summarizing technical information for District personnel and external stakeholders, and assisting with GIS data management and outreach.

The candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and may substitute equivalent experience.

Qualifications

  • Experience with computerized software systems and GIS is preferred.
  • Ability to learn and apply policies, rules, and procedures quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Support water rights administration, water conservation, and planning.

  • Assist with outreach and management of water conservation programs.
  • Map and manage water resource data in GIS and assist with water leases.

Job description

Under supervision of the Water Resources Manager, performs a variety of technical and administrative duties supporting water rights administration, water conservation, and water supply planning. The Water Resources Technician produces, summarizes, and conveys technical information to District personnel and external stakeholders; assists with outreach and management of water conservation programs; supports accounting of raw and finished water supplies; compiles, analyzes, and summarizes data for water loss audits; assists in managing surplus water leases to area irrigators or other parties; updates, organizes, and maps water resource and water use data within the District’s Geographic Information System (GIS); assists with the District’s Water Conservation Programs; and assists in the modification of existing computer programs or development of new programs for water resource operations

Bachelor’s degree in water resource management, watershed science, civil engineering, or closely related field required. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute for education. A valid Colorado driver’s license and satisfactory driving record to drive District vehicles is also required.
