Job summary

Town of Clayton seeks a Utility Maintenance Mechanic I for the Water Resources Department. Base salary range is $44,805.00 – $55,961.00 with pay based on related experience. Work location is 653 Veterans Pkwy., Clayton, NC.

The role is essential to maintaining water and sewer infrastructure and involves on-call duties. Qualified applicants will have a High School diploma or GED, and experience in utility work with heavy equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Collections 1 and/or C-Distribution preferred.
• Experience in construction-related utility work including heavy equipment operation.
• Ability to read utility line maps and operation manuals.
• Ability to establish effective working relations with others.
• Manual labor for extended periods in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repair of water and sewer lines and pump stations.
• Operate Vac-truck and jetting machine for sewer line cleaning.
• Perform confined space entries in manholes and related appurtenances.
• Record pump hours for review by Water Resources Superintendent.
• Maintain water distribution system components and test systems.
• Troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation at pump stations.
• Assist in herbicide application around hydrants and utilities.
• Repair and replace water/sewer lines, valves, hydrants, and ARVs.
• Operate equipment to inspect collections system.
