Qualifications

• Familiarity with design and production software to develop project documents and collaborate with project team members.
• Previous internship experience or coursework related to water resources is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior leads and design team members with basic design tasks, including research and layout support.
• Help prepare drawings and documents for programming, schematic design, modeling, and construction phases.
• Provide input on solutions using basic engineering theories and fundamentals.
• Assist with field activities such as site visits, RFI responses, and updating record drawings.

Position summary: JMT is seeking a Water Resources intern for their Charlotte, NC office to support with a variety of tasks, including special project assignments, active participation in project design & documentation, gain practical experience and support their educational development. Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Assist senior leads and other design team members (project managers and engineers) with basic design tasks, including research, simple studies, and layout support
• Help prepare drawings and documents for programming, schematic design, modeling, graphics, design development, and construction phases
• Provide input on solutions to problems using basic theories and engineering fundamentals
• Assist with construction phase activities, including participating in site visits, supporting RFI responses, reviewing shop drawings, and helping update record drawings
• Follow established quality control procedures and ask questions as needed
• Learn and apply department and company standards and best practices
• Develop basic design, analysis, and technical skills through hands-on experience
• Participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members
• Receive guidance and direction from supervisors and team leaders
• Collaborate with water resources engineers and other multidisciplinary team members

Qualifications Preferred

Working Conditions

Work is generally performed within an office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25lbs) may be required as needed.
