Job summary

Thurston County Public Works Department is seeking a Water Resources Infrastructure Mapping Specialist to create and maintain Stormwater, Water, and Sewer GIS maps. The role involves updating map layers, inventory management, and GPS field data collection to support various departments and third parties.

Essential duties include data entry, GIS updates in ArcMAP/ArcPRO, and coordinating with teams on spill response and CCTV utility tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental sciences, engineering, planning, or related field with four years of experience in water resources or related field.
  • Must be able to utilize a PC with related software to perform essential functions.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or have requested accommodation.
  • Certifications in PACP/MACP, CESCL, Traffic Control/Flagging, or Confined Space may be required within the first year.

Responsibilities

  • Develops stormwater, water and sewer infrastructure maps in GIS layers and updates map layers via versioned edits in ESRI software.
  • Locates and inspects stormwater infrastructure using CCTV, push cameras, and GNSS data; uses asset management software.
  • Responds to unanticipated emergencies and may rotate on a pager after hours.
  • Educates the public and maintains relationships with community groups and customers.
