Job summary

HDR is seeking current engineering students to support water resources design and modeling efforts in Minnesota. You’ll work with project engineers on hydraulics, hydrology, data collection, and presentations, contributing to civil design and construction document development for water resources projects.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, problem solving, and communication skills, with opportunities for field work and involvement in a dynamic employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • 3.0+ GPA and 3 years completed toward degree.
  • Previous internship in water resources engineering preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS and hydraulic modeling software.
  • Preference for local candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project engineers on design engineering and modeling for water resource projects.
  • Support hydraulics and hydrology modeling, data collection, and presentations.
  • Contribute to civil design and construction documents for water resources.
  • Produce design calculations and draft technical reports.
  • Perform limited field work as required.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Work under project engineers on the application of various design engineering and modeling techniques in the development of water resource projects for federal, state and local clients
  • Focus on hydraulics and hydrology modeling, stormwater collection systems modeling, data collection, assimilation, and presentations
  • Focus on projects including flood control, river design, stream grade control structures, dike systems, levees, stream channel restoration/rehabilitation, wetland and lake restoration, watershed issues and non-point source loading and point source design
  • Focus on civil design and development of construction documents for water resources and stormwater projects
  • Produce design calculations, draft technical reports and perform water resources studies
  • Perform limited field work as required by current project load
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Completion of a previous internship in the field of water resources engineering
  • Experienced with software platforms such as AutoCAD, Microstation, ArcGIS, and hydraulic modeling software
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to water resources engineering
  • Preference given to local candidates
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) Minnesota: $25 - $30
