Job summary

HDR seeks a Water Resources Engineering Intern to support project engineers in applying design and modeling techniques for federal, state, and local water resources projects.

You will work on hydraulics/hydrology modeling, stormwater data collection, and presentation support, while developing design calculations and reports in a collaborative, employee-owned environment in Minnesota.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • 3 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work under project engineers on application of design engineering and modeling techniques for water resource projects.
  • Focus on hydraulics and hydrology modeling, stormwater systems modeling, data collection and presentations.
  • Develop design calculations, technical reports and water resources studies.
  • Contribute to construction documents for water resources and stormwater projects.
  • Assist with field work as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Water Resources Engineering Intern, we'll count on you to:

  • Work under project engineers on the application of various design engineering and modeling techniques in the development of water resource projects for federal, state and local clients
  • Focus on hydraulics and hydrology modeling, stormwater collection systems modeling, data collection, assimilation, and presentations
  • Focus on projects including flood control, river design, stream grade control structures, dike systems, levees, stream channel restoration/rehabilitation, wetland and lake restoration, watershed issues and non-point source loading and point source design
  • Focus on civil design and development of construction documents for water resources and stormwater projects
  • Produce design calculations, draft technical reports and perform water resources studies
  • Perform limited field work as required by current project load
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Completion of a previous internship in the field of water resources engineering
  • Experienced with software platforms such as AutoCAD, Microstation, ArcGIS, and hydraulic modeling software
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to water resources engineering
  • Preference given to local candidates
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
