Job summary

Job description

Your Responsibilities as a Water Resources Engineer:
  • Participate in a variety of water resources engineering projects at the proposal, planning, and execution stages for engineering studies and construction projects.
  • Lead and be responsible for conceptual, preliminary, and final construction design drawings for water control structures, regional flood mitigation projects, and water quality improvement projects.
  • Obtain a thorough understanding of stormwater analysis and design through related experience, including the preparation of stormwater management plans involving hydraulic and hydrologic modeling analyses, hydrogeology, design concepts, assessment of climatic data, flood assessments, floodplain mapping and modeling, flood mitigation designs, natural channel design, environmental compliance, and regulatory permitting.
  • Provide technical review and sealing of engineering design drawings where applicable.
  • Use stormwater management modeling programs such as HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS, and StormWise/ICPR4.
  • Oversee pre‑construction, during‑construction, and post‑construction implementation of water resources projects and coordinate field work.
  • Provide peer review of reports and designs by internal water resources staff.
  • Liaise with clients, agencies, and others to determine project requirements and obtain approvals.
  • Manage project scheduling to ensure that project and client needs are met timely and effectively, and manage the financial aspects of the projects.
  • Supervise CAD designers and coordinate with other departments, professions, and agencies.
  • Supervise permit technicians and administration in completing permit applications to move the permit application process forward.
What we're looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or related field from a four‑year college or university.
  • 5+ years of experience in stormwater and/or groundwater.
  • PE License desired or close to obtaining.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer for the State of Florida desired.
  • Strong written and verbal skills required.
  • Construction experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to effectively present information to governmental boards, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Experience with stormwater routing modeling, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD (Civil3D) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the rules and regulations implemented by state and federal regulatory agencies (e.g., Florida Department of Emergency Protection, South Florida Water Management District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Florida Department of Transportation) desired.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Ability to thrive in a family atmosphere.
  • Excellent driving record and valid driver's license required.
