Job summary

Houston Engineering seeks a Water Resources Engineer to join our Iowa City, IA team. The role emphasizes hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of rural watersheds and riverine systems, GIS data processing, and supporting flood risk projects.

Responsibilities include field investigations, FEMA-compliant studies, and use of HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD/Civil 3D. Travel across the state may be required to support project management and client meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering with water resources emphasis.
• 0–3 years of Civil Engineering experience required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of rural watersheds and riverine systems.
• Process GIS data to support modeling efforts.
• Prepare floodplain and watershed studies following FEMA standards.
• Execute GIS-based flood risk modeling using HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM.
• Utilize ArcGIS and extensions for flood risk mapping and project needs.
• Support Stormwater design projects and evaluate design approaches; travel within the state as needed.
