Job summary

Houston Engineering is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join our Des Moines, IA team. The role focuses on hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, floodplain studies, and GIS-driven flood risk analyses to support water resources projects across the state.

Responsibilities include modeling rural watersheds, field data collection, FEMA-compliant studies, and GIS work with HEC-RAS/HEC-HMS/SWMM and ArcGIS. Travel across the state for meetings and project management is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering with water resources emphasis.
  • 0–3 years of Civil Engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Some experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ArcGIS is helpful.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

We are currently seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join our team in Des Moines, IA.

Job Description

Likely project areas include civil engineering and watershed projects, water resources studies, public drainage system repairs, hydrologic modeling and storm water planning. Candidate must be willing to travel throughout the state/region for project meetings and project management related activities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering with water resources emphasis.
  • 0-3 years of experience in Civil Engineering
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Some experience with hydrological and hydraulic modeling software is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3D and ArcGIS is helpful.
  • Familiarity with stormwater management, earthwork, and grading plans helpful.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, and clients.
  • Superior task management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, following up, and keeping project information organized.
  • Superior problem solving and analytical skills.
