Job summary

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to lead a range of water resources projects across multiple Illinois locations, including Champaign, Chicago, Lisle, Normal, and Tinley Park. You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with clients and regulators to advance projects from concept through completion.

The role emphasizes hydrology and hydraulic modeling, design of channels, green infrastructure, and culvert systems, with strong opportunity for client growth and firm

Qualifications

• BS in Civil, Agricultural, or Environmental Engineering.
• 10 or more years of experience in the engineering field.
• Professional Engineering License.

Responsibilities

• Manage several projects simultaneously within the water resources discipline from inception to completion.
• Design a variety of water resources projects, including natural channel design, green infrastructure, detention projects, culvert design, and IDOT highway storm sewer systems.
• Perform hydrology and hydraulic modeling and analysis.
• Conduct floodplain and drainage studies.
• Prepare reports on engineering analyses and model results.
• Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to determine stormwater requirements and facilitate permit approvals.
• Pursue new opportunities through business development efforts.
• Lead and mentor junior staff on engineering projects.
• Maintain and enhance relationships with clients.

Water Resources Engineer

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Water Resources Engineer in the below posting locations. In this role, you will lead and manage a variety of impactful water resources projects, including stormwater management, natural channel design, floodplain studies, and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. You'll have the opportunity to work directly with clients and regulatory agencies, drive project success from concept through completion, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to business development efforts. This position offers the chance to help shape resilient infrastructure solutions while collaborating with a talented, multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving communities.

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Need

• BS in Civil, Agricultural, or Environmental Engineering
• 10 or more years experience in engineering field
• Professional Engineering License

Nice To Haves

• Experience with H&H modeling software required. Software may include EPA-SWMM, PC-SWMM, HEC-RAS 2D, HEC-HMS, and Hydraflow Hydrographs.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS preferred
• Experience with IDOT regulations preferred
• Experience designing and managing projects in the water resources engineering field.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience working with clients
• Strong team player that can manage and contribute to several projects simultaneously
• Willingness to participate in business development activities
• Passion for water resources and stormwater management

Salary Range

Salary Range: $91,000-$149,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, as well as internal and external equity)
