Job summary

The City of Mesa is hiring for Water Resources Environmental Compliance Inspector I and II. These roles support the Regulatory Compliance Program by conducting water quality inspections, sampling, and reporting to protect the POTW systems and public health.

Inspectors will perform routine to advanced inspections, handle reports to agencies, and may work standby/overtime. A valid Arizona driver’s license and ADEQ certifications are required within one year.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED; three years’ technical experience in water resources.
  • Two years of college coursework (12 credit hours) may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date; must obtain Grade I ADEQ certification within one year and HazWoper within one year.

Responsibilities

  • Perform work and program administration duties to support the Regulatory Compliance Program.
  • Maintain compliance with state, federal, county, and local regulations; protect public health and water systems.
  • Assist with sampling, inspections, reporting and monitoring for Drinking Water.
  • Perform more complex inspections and submit detailed reports in Inspector II role.
  • Be available for standby, overtime, and emergency call-outs as required.
