Job summary

City of Lynchburg is seeking a technician for the Water Resources Team to perform chemical and bacteriological testing of water and wastewater. The role includes sample collection, data recording, and equipment maintenance to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental or related science and relevant lab testing experience; some positions require IS-100/IS-700 training within 90 days of employment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, environmental or related science and some experience in performing laboratory tests; or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Performs standard physical, chemical and bacteriological tests of water and wastewater samples, before, during and after treatment.
• Assists in collection of samples such as septic waste and industrial discharges.
• Records test results on prepared forms and maintains records.
• Cleans and sterilizes glassware and equipment.
• Responds to emergency calls and may work weekends or holidays.
