Job summary

The City of Pueblo Civil Service is seeking a qualified candidate for the Pretreatment Compliance Technician role in Pueblo, Colorado. You will inspect facilities for compliance with local, state, and federal rules, review reports, and collect samples including water, sewage, sludge and industrial waste.

You will conduct field tests and support water quality monitoring activities. The position is full-time, offers PERA retirement, and has a salary range of USD 63,723 to USD 80,193 per year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or other natural science
• And one year of experience in pretreatment, wastewater/water operations, or environmental regulations
• OR Associate degree with coursework in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or other natural science
• And three years of experience in pretreatment, wastewater/water operations, or environmental regulations, may be considered in place of a bachelor’s degree
• One-year of experience with Microsoft Office Suite
• A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment
• License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification
• During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license
• In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications at the time of application, within one (1) year of appointment the employee must:
• Obtain a valid Class 1 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from the Colorado Water and Wastewater Facility Operator's Certification Board.

Responsibilities

• Inspect facilities to determine compliance with local, state and federal regulations and laws
• Review compliance reports and follow up with verification of information
• Collect water, sewage, sludge and industrial waste samples
• Perform field tests for pH, DO, ORP, conductivity and temperature
• Act as field person for water quality monitoring and install and remove wastewater composite and discrete samples
