Job summary

The City of Independence seeks a Laboratory Analyst to perform professional duties in testing water and wastewater samples to ensure compliance with state and federal EPA guidelines. The role involves operating laboratory equipment, analyzing chemical and microbial properties, and supporting regulatory compliance and public education on water quality.

Responsibilities include sample collection and tests for pH, turbidity, chlorine, and metals; coordinating lab supplies; and training plant staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry or biology with related field; five years' experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory testing techniques and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Operate lab equipment and calibrate as needed; conduct chemical and bacteriological analyses.
• Analyze water and solid samples for pH, turbidity, chlorine, hardness, metals, bacteria, and more.
• Provide operational recommendations to improve plant efficiency.
• Advise on regulatory compliance to environmental staff.
• Assist in obtaining State certification and document reports.
• Coordinate lab supplies and inventory; track purchases.
• Conduct water quality training for staff.
• Assist with public outreach on water quality issues.
• Respond to customer inquiries about water quality.
