EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF WATER.

This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur. Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to directly assist the Water Purification Operator and Pump Equipment Mechanic in the performance of the duties required to operate a water treatment plant. The position will perform a variety of jobs around the Water Treatment Plant such as assisting the Pump Equipment Mechanic by passing tools; gathering parts and materials; assist in repairing pumps; replacing packing in the pumps and precipitators; assisting with the changing out of empty chlorine tanks; and helping with the setting up of ladders to climb into the tanks and filters. Assist Water Purification Operator in washing filters; adjusting chemical dosages; sampling; monitoring distribution system levels and pressure; filling chemical day tanks and monitoring water quality throughout the Treatment Plant. The goal of this position is for the employee to gain enough knowledge about the equipment to become a Water Purification Operator. Performs related work as required. This position will be required to travel to assist in servicing Grand Isle and all other remote facility.

This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.

Applicants must be at least 18 years-of-age and meet one of the following qualifying options:

• Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status in a related classification;
• OR One (1) year of paid work experience performing related manual work.
