Job summary

Jefferson Parish in Metairie, LA is seeking a skilled welder to perform welding duties, read plans, fabricate from drawings, and maintain welding equipment for Streets Department projects and vehicle repairs.

Job description

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE STREETS DEPARTMENT.

This employment list will be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in various Departments as they occur.

Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform all routine work involved in welding. Position is responsible for the use of welding procedures in fabrication, preventive maintenance, and on construction projects. Employee in this position will read plans and fabricate from drawings. For the current vacancy, employee performs all necessary work involved in welding requirements for the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment. including but not limited to layout, cutting and fitting, brazing, brushing, chipping and grinding. Employee will maintain and make minor repairs to welding equipment. Employee must be able to estimate time and materials used for a particular job and complete necessary reports. Operates a welding truck. Drives to and from various locations to perform job duties. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle necessitating a class D license, thus possession of a valid Class D Driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.

The Rating of Training and Experience will be conducted through the answers to the supplemental questions on the application.
