Water Pump Station Operator I, II or Senior Water Pump Station Operator

T he City of Plano seeks dependable, hard-working individuals to join our team as a Water Pump Station Operator in the Pumping Facilities Department. Our team works 24/7 to keep things running smoothly from our Ridgeview Pump Station (located near Ridgeview Dr. and Custer Rd.).
The ideal candidate will play a key part in operating and monitoring our SCADA system, which helps manage four (4) pump stations, six (6) lift stations, and ten (10) water towers. The ideal candidate will receive and dispatch after-hours service calls for various city departments (except police, fire, and animal services).

The preferred candidates will have a minimum oftwo (2) years of experience in operating SCADA and at least four (4) years working in the pumping (Water Utilities) and wastewater field. You will need a Class (C) Water Distribution license.
The Pump Station Operator I position requires a leastone (1) year of experience in operating SCADA and at least two (2) years working in the pumping (Water Utilities) and wastewater field. The ideal candidate will need a Class (C) Water Distribution license.
The Pump Station Operator II position requires at leastthree (3) years of experience in operating SCADA/pump station operations. The ideal candidate will need a Class (C) Water Distribution license and a Wastewater Collection II license (or better).
The Senior Pump Station Operator position requires at leastfive (5) years of experience in operating SCADA/pump station operations. You will need a Class (B) Water Distribution Operator license and a Wastewater Collections II license (or better).
The Pumping Facilities Department is smaller and works four (4) days on and three (3) days off.
There are two positions available with one of the following schedules: Wednesday and Thursday 12:00 AM—8:00 AM and Friday and Saturday 12:00 AM—12:00 PM. The second position's schedule is yet to be determined but will include nights and weekends. Overtime is available to cover other shifts.
The successful candidate may be offered a position in either the Water Pump Station Operator I,Water Pump Station OperatorII or the Senior Water Pump Station Operator classification. The rangefor theWater Pump Station Operator Iis $21.50 - $26.34 per hour; for theWater Pump Station OperatorII: $23.71 – $29.04 per hour; and for the Senior Water Pump Station Operatoris $26.14 - 32.02.

Water Pump Station Operator I (The job description for the Water Pump Station Operator II and the Senior Water Pump Station Operator are listed below).
Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the entry level classification in the Pump Station Operator series. The incumbent carries out adequate and practical methods to attain desired objectives as assigned by a supervisor or a more senior level Pump Station Operator while working within established directions, procedures and policies. Methods require use of initiatives and resourcefulness in executing processes and procedures. Works under indirect supervision, conferring with supervisor or more senior Pump Station Operator on questions and unusual matters.
Examples of ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Marginal Duties:
Typical Decisions: The incumbent must identify abnormal readings or trends in data and make immediate necessary corrections to the pumping system when required. The incumbent must decide when emergency conditions exist and contact the proper agencies, department, or supervisor. Receives after-hours emergency calls and determines what, if any, City personnel should respond.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of: Operation of high service water and wastewater pumps and motors and dual pressure plain systems; operation of specialized instrumentation and computerized control equipment; operation of power generating equipment and controls; Federal, State, and local regulations pertaining to the operation of water distribution and sewage collection systems.
Skill in: Completing mathematical calculations; interpreting data and trends; remaining courteous and polite when dealing with irate citizens and agencies in stressful situations; working independently on an assigned shift without direct supervision; communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Two (2) years of water system related experience, with preference for one (1) year of SCADA experience.
Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements
Licenses and Certifications: Texas Class C driver's license (must obtain within 30 days of hire per state law). Class C Water Distribution Operator license required.
Supervision: Works under indirect supervision; shifts may include nights and weekends.
Water Pump Station Operator II (The job description for the Senior Water Pump Station Operator are listed below).
Distinguishing Characteristics:This is the journey-level classification in the Pump Station Operator series. The incumbent carries out adequate and practical methods to attain desired objectives working within established procedures and policies. Works under indirect supervision, conferring with supervisor or Pump Station Operator IV on questions and unusual matters. Assists with training Pump Station Operators within this job family progression.

Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in and around Water Station; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, and to operate varied hand and power tools and equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when completing maintenance and cleaning. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
Employees work in and around buildings and facilities and are exposed to loud noise levels, machinery, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and chemicals.
