Job Description

This extracurricular position is available in the Rockwood School District for the 2026-27 School Year. Season: Spring.

Start date for this coaching position is 3/1/27. RSD contracted teachers will be paid a stipend; RSD hourly employees will receive the same stipend amount as an hourly rate; non‑RSD staff will receive the same stipend as an hourly rate.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY: A coach/sponsor will mentor, guide, and support students in their athletic or extracurricular pursuits by fostering personal growth, teamwork, and skill development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide supervision of students during all aspects of the program
• Develop training programs, provide instruction and feedback
• Foster team cohesion
• Plan competitions and contests, including out-of-season activities
• Collaborate with school administration
• Ensure compliance with regulations
• Promote sportsmanship and character development in an encouraging and inclusive environment
• Proactively communicate schedules and information to parents and administration
• Coaches and sponsors must adhere to the standards of conduct outlined in District Form 5002 Code of Conduct – Coaches, Sponsors, and Chaperones. This list is not exhaustive; it provides examples of appropriate standards of conduct for coaches and sponsors.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge and experience in the sport or activity
• Leadership skills and the ability to set an example for players
• Effective communication skills to inspire players and work with them on improvement
• Availability to work nights, holidays, evenings, and weekends; willingness to work in bad weather and to travel to different competition locations
• (Head Coaches) Willingness to provide off‑season training and practice following MSHSAA Guidelines

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

• High school graduate, at least 2 years prior
