Job summary

The City Water Public Works department in Papillion, NE is hiring an entry-level Water Operator I. You will help maintain the water distribution system, operate the water treatment plant, and perform routine maintenance under supervision.

You’ll read meters, assist with chemical handling, collect samples, and support valve and hydrant work. Shift work, weekend/on-call duties, and safety compliance are expected.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Willingness to obtain required state licenses.
• Ability to read and interpret hydraulic diagrams or blueprints.
• Basic computer skills for timekeeping and training modules.

Responsibilities

• Participates in maintenance, repair, operation, and cleanliness of the plant and storage areas.
• Reads meters and assists with water taps, valve maintenance, and line work.
• Operates SCADA and related computer systems under supervision.
• Assists in chemical deliveries and proper mixing of treatment chemicals.
• Collects water samples and performs routine lab testing.
• Supports installation of water infrastructure and related systems.
• Operates departmental equipment and performs snow removal as needed.
• Maintains a safe work environment and positive public relations.
• Willing to work weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
