Job summary

The City of Forest Hill is seeking a Meter Reader/Utility Maintenance worker to read meters, maintain meters and related infrastructure, and support water/sewer system upkeep. You will handle records, routing, and basic repairs while complying with safety protocols.

Responsibilities include reading meters, handling repairs of water breaks and sewer lines, driving service vehicles, and responding to after-hours emergencies as part of an on-call rotation. A valid Texas driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Texas driver's license required.
• Preferred: TCEQ Class D Water Operator license within 18 months of hire.
• Prior experience in utility maintenance, meter reading, construction, or related field preferred.
• Must maintain an acceptable driving record as per City policy.

Responsibilities

• Reads meters on assigned routes and records readings accurately.
• Checks condition of meters; investigates questionable readings; maintains/replaces inactive or broken meters and meter boxes; tests meters for accuracy.
• Submits records of defective equipment and new replacement equipment for billing purposes.
• Orders necessary supplies and prepares purchase orders.
• Prepares reports as needed.
• Operates light trucks and various hand tools; serves as a general maintenance worker.
• Assists in repairing water breaks and unclogging sewer lines.
• Drives pickup trucks.
• Follows safety procedures and uses PPE, including traffic control and confined-space safety practices when near roadways or in meter boxes.
• Responds to after-hours and emergency calls as part of an on-call rotation.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
