Job summary

The City of Bowie is seeking applicants for a Water Meter Technician in the Public Works Utilities Division. The selected applicant will maintain and repair the City’s water and sewer lines, clean catch basins, read water meters, and replace meters.

Additional duties may include cutting off and restoring water service, and handling delinquent payments as required. A valid driver's license is required to perform duties and operate City vehicles.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Experience reading and routine maintenance of meters, gauges, office equipment or similar mechanical equipment or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair the City’s water and sewer lines, clean catch basins, read water meters, and replace meters.
• Cut off and restore water service as needed; handle delinquent payments as required.
• Spot check visible plumbing for leaks and observe for malfunctioning meters.

Job description

The City of Bowie is currently seeking applicants for the position of Water Meter Technician in the Public Works Utilities Division. The selected applicant will be part of the team responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s water and sewer lines, cleaning catch basins, reading water meters, and effecting repairs to water meters.

Additional duties may include cutting off and restoring water service, and accepting delinquent payments may also be required duties. The incumbent will also be responsible for spot checking visible plumbing for water leaks; observing for obvious malfunctioning of meters, and removing and replacing meters.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or GED
• Experience in reading and routine maintenance of meters, gauges, office equipment or similar mechanical equipment or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience locating and recognizing defective meters
• Knowledge of geographical and street locations of the City of Bowie

PAY RATE: $23.49/ HOURLY
