Job summary

City of North Port is seeking a Meter Reader to accurately read water and reuse water meters, operate handheld devices and coordinate service orders. You will educate customers, maintain records, and support meter field operations under supervision.

The role requires basic math, safety awareness, and the ability to work weekends or on-call when needed. A valid Florida driver’s license is required with potential for progression to a Level III license.

Qualifications

• Requires general knowledge of meter reading procedures and safety precautions.
• Must be able to read meters daily and perform basic math.
• Excellent customer service and written communication skills.
• Ability to operate small office equipment and data entry devices.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Read water and reuse water meters accurately using handheld devices and drive-by units.
• Complete service orders (turn ons/off, locking meters) and enter data electronically.
• Maintain a daily truck log and vehicle cleanliness.
• Identify meters or boxes needing repair or replacement and arrange maintenance.
• Educate customers on meter reading procedures, water usage, and conservation.
