Job summary

American Water Works Association is seeking an experienced engineer to perform advanced design, calculations, and drafting for water mains and related facilities in Virginia. The role involves field investigations, cost estimation, and coordination with external agencies to support project development.

Responsibilities include preparing AutoCAD-based water main plans, appurtenances, and traffic maintenance details, plus entering data in SAP ERP and compiling permit packages.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or certificate in engineering technology, CAD, drafting, or related field, plus a minimum of 6 years of working experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations to identify routing for proposed water mains and making design-related recommendations.
• Prepare preliminary cost estimates for proposed water main installation projects.
• Research existing records to support project development.
• Perform calculations using field survey data for the design and drafting of watermain installation projects.
• Prepare advanced design and drafting of water main plans and profiles in AutoCAD per Fairfax Water and Virginia Department of Health standards.
• Prepare plans for specialty water main appurtenances and maintenance of traffic plans.
• Prepare quantity take-offs and compute detailed cost estimates for water main installations.
• Enter project information into SAP ERP and prepare permit packages for regulatory agencies.
• Coordinate design with outside agencies and utility companies; support transition to Construction.
• Prepare routine project correspondence and visuals for presentations.
