Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team. This dedicated group maintains the critical physical infrastructure supporting AWS, ensuring that the data center's Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems operate at over 99.9999% availability while delivering excellent customer service.

Key job responsibilities
  • Act as the primary escalation point and SME for all water system infrastructure, overseeing critical systems such as building monitoring, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and oxidant systems.
  • Conduct water sampling, develop Legionella prevention programs, and implement Water Utilization Efficiency (WUE) improvements.
  • Provide training, create standard practices for operations and vendor teams, and manage preventative maintenance and spare parts inventory.
  • Work around ponds for sampling, remediation, and repairs to maintain operations and compliance.
  • Review and give feedback on new system designs for reliability and redundancy.
  • Support infrastructure improvements and system optimizations.
  • Work outside normal hours for routine maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Communicate technical info effectively to non-technical audiences, including reports and presentations.
  • Coordinate with various teams to manage projects and optimize operations.
  • Ensure safety and regulatory compliance for vendor and staff operations.
  • Establish and monitor performance benchmarks, analyze data, and prepare reports.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office and other tools for documentation and compliance tracking.

The Water Chief Engineer manages complex water systems critical for data center cooling, including treatment, filtration, distribution, and chemical dosing. They direct technicians, develop procedures, and oversee infrastructure projects from start to finish.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in water infrastructure with relevant certifications (e.g., Water Treatment Plant Operator, Water Distribution System Operator, Backflow Prevention Device Tester).
  • 5+ years working with federal/state water regulatory compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialized training in water treatment, distribution, and quality analysis.
  • Relevant state or local certifications/licenses (e.g., Ohio Water Supply Certificates).
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Experience in strategic planning, documentation, and presentations.
