Job summary

Channel Islands YMCA is seeking a Water Fitness Instructor at the Montecito Family YMCA in Santa Barbara, CA. This part-time, day-shift role leads safe, engaging water fitness classes per YMCA and USWFA guidelines, designs progression plans, and delivers excellent member service.

You will maintain class attendance, complete required trainings within set timelines, and work with a supportive staff to ensure safety and inclusivity for all members and guests.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Previous work experience in related field preferred.
• Nationally Recognized Water Aerobics Certification.
• Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire.
• Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire.
• Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead energizing, fun, safe water fitness classes following YMCA or USWFA guidelines.
• Design and conduct progressive exercise plans for participants.
• Monitor attendance and report outcomes.
• Maintain minimum class attendance standard.
• Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with members.
• Participate and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings.
• Create a welcoming environment for all members and guests.
• Work collaboratively as part of a staff team.
• Ensure building, grounds, and equipment are in working order; report concerns.
• Maintain certifications and take advantage of professional growth opportunities.
• Support the annual campaign process educating members.
• Understand the role as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse.
• Ensure safety of children in facilities and programs with proper supervision.

What does a Water Fitness Instructors do?

• Lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational water fitness classes following YMCA or USWFA Instructor Guidelines, Protocols, and Visions of Excellence
• Design and conduct progressive exercise plans for program participants in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA
• Monitor attendance and report outcomes
• Maintain minimum class attendance standard
• Provides exceptional customer service and fosters connections with members
• Participating and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings
• Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and welcoming for all members and guests
• Able to work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a staff team
