Under general supervision, performs installation, maintenance, and repairs of water lines and appurtenances, and performs responsible technical work in the operation and minor maintenance of equipment at water treatment plants for the county water department.
Work may involve collecting and testing water samples, controlling mechanical, electrical, and chemical equipment involved in pumping and/or treating drinking water. Records analytical data, chemical feed rates, filter and softener controls, monitors tank, chemical, and pumping levels. Basic plumbing knowledge is recommended.
Work may involve maintenance and repairs of water lines, individual services, completing work orders, verifying water meter readings, commissioning and decommissioning water services, locating water lines, assessing problems, and assisting in traffic control. Installation of meters, meter boxes, service lines, flushing hydrants, and data collection may also be required.
Technicians will be required to pull on-call duty on a rotating schedule, working after hours, nights, and weekends to address water-related problems or complaints. May be designated as essential personnel to work during emergencies to maintain critical operations.
Employee reports to Senior personnel or Field Operations Manager.
Physical ability to operate machinery and equipment, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. Extensive walking, stooping, and exposure to weather conditions. Ability to compare data, communicate effectively, read and prepare reports, and perform calculations.
