Summary: The Field Technician is responsible for detecting and repairing leaks on water mains and service lines, working closely with leak repair contractors. This role supports various field operations including valve exercising, system flushing, water quality sampling, system maintenance, inspections, and meter-related tasks.
Scope of Responsibilities: The Service Technician's duties include identifying, locating, and repairing leaks; closing work orders and locates; coordinating with leak repair contractors; collecting water samples for analysis; conducting pump station inspections; performing basic maintenance; assisting with system flushing, valve exercising, hydrant maintenance; participating in meter inspections and changeouts; maintaining accurate records; responding to emergency calls and after-hours work; and other duties as assigned. The position requires independence, system knowledge, and customer service skills, as many tasks involve customer contact.
General Duties and Responsibilities: Tasks involve locating water lines, troubleshooting system issues, verifying leaks, meter reading and replacement, working during utility cut-off days, communicating with customers, assisting the field crew, and working overtime and weekends as needed. The role also includes on-call duties and other responsibilities assigned by supervisors.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Candidates should have substantial knowledge of water system operations, customer interaction skills, leak detection, troubleshooting abilities, and the capacity to learn on the job. Attendance at training sessions as directed is required.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED, valid driver's license, ability to work independently, pass drug and background checks. Physical requirements include lifting up to 100 lbs., good vision, ability to walk long distances, and work in all weather conditions.
Work Environment: Primarily outdoor work in various weather conditions and terrains.
