Job Title: Water Distribution Maintenance Worker II

Purpose of the Classification:

Responsible for performing unskilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance of the City water distribution system, working individually or as part of a team on planned or scheduled activities.

Essential Tasks:

1. Operate hand tools, power tools, light trucks, and small equipment.
2. Participate in maintenance activities, including operating medium equipment.
3. Set up worksite and traffic control measures.
4. Locate water lines using probing techniques.
5. Digs ditches and trenches, lays pipes, installs and repairs valves and leaks.
6. Perform painting, cement mixing, grass cutting, street patching, and hydrant installation.
7. Perform additional tasks as assigned.
8. Report to work regularly and punctually.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to the Water Distribution Maintenance Leader II. Does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Training and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; at least one year of experience in construction or maintenance trades, including operation of light to medium construction equipment.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Knowledge of manual labor practices, safety precautions, and tools; ability to follow instructions, lead manual work, operate mechanical and automotive equipment, read plans, and interpret specifications; ability to plan and oversee work and influence others.

Physical Requirements:

Includes walking, standing, lifting (up to 50 pounds regularly, over 60 pounds occasionally), reaching, twisting, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and sufficient vision, speech, and hearing. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.

Licenses and Certificates:

Valid Oklahoma Class D driver’s license required; Water license issued by the State Department of Health or ability to obtain within nine months.

Working Environment:

Primarily outdoors, with travel to various locations. Exposure to weather conditions, requiring weekend and holiday work, and standby status.

This position is safety-sensitive and subject to drug and alcohol testing, including for marijuana, regardless of medical marijuana license status.
