YMCA of Greater Dayton is seeking a Water Aerobics Instructor for the Downtown Dayton location. The role supports members in group exercise, maintains water-area cleanliness, and upholds YMCA standards.

This part-time, non-exempt position offers engagement with community wellness and fitness programming. Responsibilities include leading classes, ensuring safety, managing attendance, and promoting YMCA programs while arriving early and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED required; 2-year college degree in Physical Education/Exercise Science or related field preferred.
• Six months class participation experience or fitness class assistant and interest in fitness field.

Responsibilities

• Leads fitness and/or related classes following YMCA standards and guidelines.
• Communicates and enforces wellness center rules at participants’ comprehension level.
• Trains participants in a demonstrative and professional manner.
• Watches and corrects participants when exercising unsafely.
• Promotes wellness and other YMCA programs.
• Arrives 10–15 minutes before class to start duties.
• Sets up and takes down class equipment.
• Begins and ends every class on time.
• Takes attendance for each class.
• Ensures participants are registered appropriately.
• Educates members on appropriate attire for group classes.
• Teaches entire session and arranges subs if needed.
• Develops positive relationships with members and provides motivation.
• Increases awareness of healthy lifestyle factors.
• Exercising regularly to maintain fitness level.
• Inspects equipment for safety and wear.
• Reports concerns to supervisor.
• Suggests improvements for pool area programs.
• Maintains cleanliness of water aerobics equipment.

• Promotes wellness and other YMCA programs.
• Arrives 10 to 15 minutes prior to class starting in order to start assigned duties.
• Sets up and takes down class equipment
• Begins and ends every class on time.
• Takes attendance of class each time class is held.
• Ensures participants are registered appropriately.
• Educates members and program participants on appropriate and comfortable attire for group exercise classes.
• Teaches entire session of classes. Finds subs for sickness or vacations. Is willing to help sub for others.
• Develops positive relationships with members and provides motivational support and guidance.
• Increases member and program participant awareness of healthy lifestyle factors.
• Exercises regularly to maintain fitness level (strength and endurance).
• Inspects all equipment used for safety hazards, damage or wear.
• Communicates to direct supervisor any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up.
• Communicates any suggestions to improve the programs within the pool area.
• Maintains cleanliness of the water aerobics equipment through routine cleaning schedule and according to association guidelines.

Qualifications

• Must be at lest 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED required. 2-year college degree in Physical Education/Exercise Science/related field or applicable experience is preferred.
• Minimum of six months class participation experience or fitness class assistant and a high level of interest in the fitness field.
