Job summary

Charles County Government is seeking an instructor to lead assigned recreation classes and clinics. You will use current techniques to ensure participant safety and maintain a positive environment during instruction.

Responsibilities include contacting participants about cancellations, completing required paperwork, and enforcing program rules. Candidates should have relevant aquatics and coaching certifications and be at least 18 years old.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to lead instructional classes and ensure safety.
• Ability to follow program policies and procedures.
• Experience with completing progress reports and certifications.

Responsibilities

• Instruct assigned classes, programs or clinics.
• Ensure safety of all participants using latest techniques.
• Maintain a safe, friendly environment while teaching.
• Contact participants and inform them of any cancellations.
• Complete attendance records, skill worksheets and progress reports.
• Enforce rules and regulations of the program/facility.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job description

Use the latest techniques and best practices while ensuring safety of all participants.

Maintain a safe, friendly and positive environment while giving instruction to participants.

Responsible for the required amount of classes to be taught when and where they are assigned.

Must contact all participants and inform them of cancellations.

Complete required paperwork, including attendance records, skill worksheets, progress reports and completion certificates.

Enforce rules and regulations as outlined by program and/or facility.

Other Duties:

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of--

• Proficient skills of program in which providing instruction

Ability to--

• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants, the public and pool staff.
• Follow established program policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year-for-year basis.)

Training and/or Education:

• Water Safety Instructor, Water Aerobics Certifications (Aquatics)
• Lifeguard Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor Certification (Aquatics)
• USAG certifications, Safety Training for Gymnastics Coaches (Elite)
• NYSCA, NAYS coaching certifications (Sports)
• Other professional certifications related to program (Aquatics, Centers, Elite, Programs, & Sports)
• CPR/First Aid preferred

Experience:

No experience required.

Special Requirements:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Physical Demands:

Must maintain physical condition to properly teach assigned recreation program or activity.

Additional Information:

Work hours and location may vary and are contingent upon adequate participant registration and attendance.The Department reserves the right to transfer or terminate staff when necessary.Part time employees may not exceed 1,250 hour annually.
