Job summary

City of Ballwin Parks & Recreation is seeking an energetic water fitness instructor to lead group classes in a safe setting. You will plan sessions, monitor participants, and uphold safety standards under the Aquatic Manager.

A professional appearance and courteous attitude are essential for daily interactions with patrons. Requirements include CPR/First Aid, a relevant water certification within 6 months, and the ability to lift 25 lbs.

Qualifications

• Must obtain a nationally recognized water certification within 6 months.
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CPR and First Aid certification required.

Responsibilities

• Instruct water fitness classes when main instructors are unavailable.
• Plan and instruct classes in coordination with Aquatic Manager.
• Promote water fitness principles and ensure participant safety.
• Monitor participants by heart rate or exertion checks.
• Start and finish classes on time and maintain equipment.
• Attend staff meetings and assist with City programs as needed.
• Enforce all rules and report complaints to the Aquatic Manager.
• Remain flexible to work mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Job description

Job Summary: To conduct group water fitness classes for participants in a positive and safe manner.Essential Job Functions:Report directly to the Aquatic Manager.Plan and instruct water fitness classes when main instructors are unavailable.Know, understand and promote the principals of water fitness to participants.Maintain nationally recognized water certifications and CEC’s as required.Provide an informative, motivating and safe group exercise environment.Educate class participants about exercise safety guidelines.Monitor patrons through heart rate checks and/or perceived rate of exertion.Start and finish classes on time.Prepare, maintain and properly store all program equipment.Project a professional and healthy image through dress, behavior and attitude.Respond to all patron needs in a courteous manner and report comments/complaints to the Aquatic ManagerAttend all staff meetings and training as required.Assist with the City of Ballwin Parks & Recreation programs and events as needed.Enforce all rules and regulation set forth by the Aquatic ManagerOther duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Must be able to obtain an AEA, AFAA, ACE or other nationally recognized water certification within 6 months of starting.Must be able to lift 25 lbs. objects.Maintain a professional and mature attitude toward responsibilities, fellow staff and patrons.Work effectively with scheduling coordinator, co-workers and the public.Must be flexible to work mornings, evenings and weekends.Uniform & Equipment Used to Perform the Job: swim suit, sunscreen, hat/visor, aqua shoes, gloves, noodles, gyros, dumbbells, tape/CD player, headset, aqua sound system and other program equipmentMust be a minimum of 18 years of age.Possess a High School diploma or equivalent.Possess a valid AEA, AFAA, ACE or other nationally recognized water certification.Possess a valid CPR and first aid certification.Previous experience teaching water fitness classes preferred.
