THE POSITION

Are you a driven and committed individual looking to start a career as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee? As a trainee, you will learn about operating and maintaining our wastewater treatment facility at Ryerson Station State Park. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

You will undergo extensive training covering wastewater treatment processes, equipment handling, safety, and regulatory standards. This role provides valuable knowledge about environmental responsibility and helps protect public health and natural resources. You will be part of a team managing a wastewater treatment facility using Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) technology, as well as overseeing the swimming pool complex, water distribution system, pump stations, sewage and water lines, and manholes within Ryerson Station State Park.

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • This is a seasonal, full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, with no healthcare benefits.
  • The season runs from approximately March 2025 to November 2025, after which the employee will be on leave without pay. Employment will resume around March 2026.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch, five days a week.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications

  • Six months of building maintenance or trades experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • Possession of a PA Class C Driver's License is required.
  • Within the probationary period, you must obtain a valid Operator's Certificate or Operator in Training Designation issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators, at a level equal to or higher than the wastewater system to be operated or maintained (Wastewater System Class D Subclass 1,4).
