Position Overview

This is a trainee-level position, performed under immediate supervision, involving technical activities in the operation and maintenance of the County's wastewater treatment plants. The trainee is required to obtain a State of Florida "C" Level Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator License within 15 months of hire.

Salary and Compensation

Salary will be determined based on the qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements outlined in the job description. Additional compensation may be provided based on licensure.

Responsibilities

• Participate in an on-the-job training program with practical experience under supervision.
• Read and understand technical laboratory, operations, and maintenance procedures.
• Perform entry-level work in operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities.
• Conduct daily operations including sampling, lab work, field adjustments, mechanical repairs, chemical handling, and electronic monitoring.
• Perform laboratory analyses for treatment facilities.
• Operate and maintain equipment such as sludge belt filter presses and clarify weirs.
• Inspect reclaimed distribution systems as required.
• Participate in plant rounds, monitoring, troubleshooting, and documenting processes using various instruments and systems.
• Assist with equipment maintenance, cleaning, and basic pump and motor repairs.
• Work varying shifts, hours, and locations as needed for comprehensive training.
• Adhere to safety standards and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must obtain a Class "C" Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator's license within 15 months of hire, as issued by the State of Florida.
• Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's license.
• Effective oral and written communication skills; professional presentation.
• Ability to follow instructions and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with SCADA and GIS software is a plus.
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical materials.
• Ability to prepare reports, logs, and work requests.
• Availability to work any hours or shifts as assigned.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
