Job description

Position Overview

This is a trainee-level position, performed under immediate supervision, involving technical activities related to the operation and maintenance of the County's wastewater treatment plants. The trainee is required to obtain a State of Florida 'C' Level Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator License within 15 months of hire.

Compensation

Salary will be determined based on qualifications exceeding the minimum requirements outlined in the job description.

Additional compensation may be provided based on licensure.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Participates in an on-the-job training program involving practical "hands-on" experience with plant operations under supervision.
2. Reads and understands various technical laboratory, operational, and maintenance procedures.
3. Performs entry-level work in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities.
4. Collects samples, performs laboratory work, conducts field adjustments, performs mechanical repairs, handles chemicals, and monitors the facility electronically.
5. Performs laboratory analysis for Wastewater/Reclaim Augmentation and Distribution Treatment Facilities.
6. Operates and maintains equipment such as sludge belt filter presses and clarifier weirs.
7. Inspects reclaimed distribution systems as required.
8. Participates in plant rounds, inspecting, monitoring, troubleshooting, and documenting processes using gauges, analyzers, SCADA systems, and other instrumentation.
9. Assists with maintenance and cleaning of plant equipment, some ground maintenance, and may be cross-trained in basic pump and motor maintenance.
10. Works varying shifts, hours, and locations to gain comprehensive training in plant operations.
11. Adheres to safety standards and procedures.
12. Performs related duties and additional tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain a Class "C" Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator's license within 15 months of hire, as issued by the State of Florida.
• Valid Florida Driver's license.
• Effective oral and written communication skills and professional presentation.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience with SCADA and GIS software is a plus.
• Basic mathematical skills for analysis and calculations.
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical documents.
• Ability to write reports, logs, work orders, and other documents.
• Availability to work any hours or days as assigned.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
