Job summary

Pleasants Power Station is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Operator to operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater treatment systems ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. You will perform inspections, adjust processes, sample and test waters, and maintain equipment to support safe discharge or reuse.

The role emphasizes accurate data logging, adherence to environmental health standards, and proactive maintenance to minimize disruptions while protecting public health.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
• Experience in industrial manufacturing, chemical processing, or production operations is a plus.
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes (biological, chemical, physical) is beneficial.
• Ability to read gauges, meters, and interpret data from monitoring systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are important.

Description

The Wastewater Treatment Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining wastewater treatment systems to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. The operator performs routine inspections, adjusts treatment processes, maintains equipment, and ensures that wastewater is treated safely and effectively before discharge or reuse. This position plays a key role in protecting environmental and public health.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Controls and monitors pumps, valves, filters, and related treatment equipment to ensure efficient wastewater processing and distribution.
• Executes daily inspections of plant facilities and equipment to verify proper operation and identify potential issues.
• Collects water and wastewater samples, performs analytical testing, and adjusts chemical feed rates and treatment processes based on results.
• Documents operational data, field observations, and daily activities accurately in physical logs and computerized management systems.
• Performs scheduled preventative maintenance and responds to corrective maintenance needs, escalating significant equipment issues to supervision.
• Operates the facility in full compliance with applicable regulatory permit conditions and standards set by the EPA and state environmental agencies.
• Calibrates and adjusts chemical feed systems while monitoring treatment of chemical inventory to ensure uninterrupted plant operations.
• Supports emergency response efforts, including spill containment and equipment troubleshooting, to minimize operational disruptions.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of plant facilities, buildings, and surrounding grounds to uphold safety and operational standards.
• Adheres to all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations as well as established company policies and procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical certification or training in industrial operations, chemical processing, or related field preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in industrial manufacturing, chemical processing, or production operations environment preferred.
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes including biological, chemical, and physical treatment methods.
• Ability to operate and maintain a variety of plant equipment and tools safely and effectively.
• Understanding sampling and laboratory testing procedures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and correct process issues.
• Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, and SCADA systems.
• Good written and verbal communication skills are important.
• Basic computer skills (data entry, spreadsheets, email communication).
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and practices in an industrial setting.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25–50 pounds as needed.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators if necessary.
• Ability to work in a laboratory and industrial environment with exposure to chemicals, noise, and varying temperatures.
• Manual dexterity to handle laboratory instruments and equipment.
